We advise parents and practitioners the following approved resources to provide understanding of autism and related spectrum disorders, and applied behaviour analysis (ABA), Dr  O. Ivar  Lovaas’ approach (pioneer in developing therapies for Autism utilizing the principles of applied behaviour analysis) and Skinner’s analysis of verbal behaviour.

The Me Book. Lovaas, O. I. Teaching developmentally disabled children. Austin, Texas: Pro-Ed., 1981.
Teaching Developmentally Disabled Children is designed for use with children age 3 and older who suffer from intellectual disability, brain damage, autism, severe aphasia, emotional disorder, or childhood schizophrenia.

Applied Behaviour Analysis. Cooper, J.O., Heron, T.E. & Heward, W.L., 2nd ed. New Jersey: Prentice Hall, 2007.
Applied Behaviour Analysis provides a complete description of the principles and procedures needed to systematically change socially significant Behaviour and to understand the reasons for that change. 

Verbal Behaviour. Skinner, B. F. New York: Appleton-Century-Crofts, 1957.
Verbal Behaviour analyses human behaviour, encompassing what is traditionally called language, linguistics, or speech.

Beyond Freedom and Dignity. Skinner, B.F. New York: Alfred Knopf, 1971. 
To promote Skinner's philosophy of science, the technology of human behaviour, his conception of determinism, and what Skinner calls 'cultural engineering'.  The book argues that entrenched belief in free will and the moral autonomy of the individual (which Skinner referred to as "dignity") hinders the prospect of using scientific methods to modify behaviour for the purpose of building a happier and better-organized society.

Behavior Analysis of Child Development. Bijou, S.W., 2nd Printing. Gear Street, Reno, NV: Context Press, 1995.
First published in 1961, Sidney Bijou's Behavior Analysis of Child Development is a seminal work in the field of child development. Intended for the student with a limited background in psychology who is embarking on a study of child development, the book offers a concise introduction to the natural scientific approach to child psychology. It defines basic behavioral terms and principles, and includes many examples of the application of these principles to the understanding of children.

Sidney Bijou and Donald Baer began to apply behaviour principles to child development in an area referred to as "Behavioural Development" or "Behaviour Analysis of Child Development". In the behavioural model, development is represented as behaviour change and is dependent on a combination of factors including the level/kind of stimulation, behavioural function, and the learning/genetic history of the organism.

Verbal Behaviour Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP). Sundberg, M. L., AVB Press, 2008
The VB-MAPP is an assessment tool, curriculum guide, and skill tracking system that is designed for children with autism, and other individuals who demonstrate language delays. The VB-MAPP is based on B.F. Skinner’s (1957) analysis of verbal behaviour, established developmental milestones, and research from the field of behaviour analysis.
